early Christmas present

Recently, we opened and assembled an early Christmas present such that we can keep active this winter. I ordered this spin bike on the day that the Omicron variant made the news. When the pandemic began we put our YMCA gym membership on hold thinking that soon we would be back. Then our expectations shifted and we planned our return to the gym in three months, then six months, then a year, and now who knows. So we chose to bring a little of the gym into our home.

One of the challenges is space. Where to put a spin bike in a 1,200 square foot condo. We chose the living room such that we can participate in Apple Fitness+ on our TV.

it is Sunday

photo taken by Denton Harryman and shared on Flickr as creative commons (CC0)

It is Sunday so I am sharing a photo of a Saint Peter Catholic Church in uptown Charlotte. The perspective is uniquely Charlotte during the pandemic … construction continued.

This church is across the park from our condo complex and I have shared photos, of the church, many times before.

I especially like the perspective in today’s photo. Following is a link to the same scene in in black.

LYNX

This a new scene in uptown Charlotte. The LYNX light rail now runs on trolly tracks and called Street Cars. It was an interesting choice to use the same trains on high speed light rail tracks and on trolly tracks. I assume they are actually different trains because there are no power lines above the trolly tracks while the high speed light rail is powered by electricity.

fall colors

This photo was taken recently however it is almost out of season. The temperatures ae dropping and the leaves are falling. The building in the background is the Carillon Tower.

Following is link to the Carillon Tower. I especially like the art inside the Carillon Tower. Also, we are sharing a link to the original of today’s photo saved on Flickr with the caption: Falls colors in uptown Charlotte.

officiAlly

I took this photo because the QR code intrigued me. Is it possible to snap a photo while driving past; them zoom in and use the QR code to link to the site advertised? Turns out zooming in does not work however I was able to point my iPhone camera at a copy of the photo and use the QR code as a link.

I also wanted to share the excitement around the big reveal of the inaugural 2022 Charlotte FC kit.

Also, I like the photo in black and white.

Today’s photo show a message found on the steps of the Mint museum in uptown Charlotte. The message is by Emily Little and is part an art initiative called Of Earth and Sky CLT.

Their website states that they are providing “tokens of inspiration and poetic reminders of hope”.

trading post

Today’s photo shows a historical sign found in the Southend district near uptown Charlotte. Today Charlotte is still a trading route but on the focus now is banking and NASCAR.

Personally, I like this phot because of the glint of sun on the sign, the sun lighting up the leaves, and the blue of the sky.

The building behind the sign is an apartment complex called The Crown of Queen City.

back to the future

photo taken by Denton Harryman and shared on Flickr as creative commons (CC0)

Today is theme day in the City Daily Photo community. The theme is “the future” and our contribution is this photo of a “back to the future” mural found on the back wall of a the Discovery Place Science Center. The photo was taken facing the sun and then Photoshop enhanced. Maybe this is the future.

Following is a link to the Discovery Place Science Center which I truly believe is the future. IMHO, every time a child visits the science center humanities future is enhanced because they learn to enjoy and appreciate science.

Note that the sign on the bottom right of the photo says “you are being watched” . Maybe this is the future.

family scene

Today we share another family scene from uptown Charlotte. Normally uptown is full of office workers or long adults. However, Thanksgiving week presents many family photo opportunities.

It has been many years however I fondly remember carrying my kids when they were young.

As shown in the photo this scene was found at the Fifth Third bank.

While on a walk, I took this quick snap of a family enjoying scooter time. The scene was found on Tryon near the Capital Grill. The family scene and the Fall colors made for a nice photo opportunity.

Full disclosure; I have never ridden an electric scooter and I don’t see a ride in my future. Also, note that my quick snap has been enhanced using photoshop.

the day after Thanksgiving

photo taken by Denton Harryman and shared on Flickr as creative commons (CC0)

The day after Thanksgiving means putting up Christmas trees. Today’s photo shows the assembly of the Christmas tree in the atrium of One Wells Fargo Center. As you can see the assembly involves a crane and several people.

Following is a link to a Wikipedia article about Two Wells Fargo Center. Also, we are sharing a link to the original of today’s photo saved on Flickr with the caption: The day after Thanksgiving means putting the Christmas tree up.

a pink reflection

photo taken by Denton Harryman and shared on Flickr as creative commons (CC0)

While walking along the rail trail, the jogger approaching us was bathed in a pink reflection. It was not a surprise to us given there is a mid-rise condo with pink glass on the rail trail. The evening sun was reflecting off the pink building and on to this jogger.

From a photographic standpoint I like the contrast between the shadows and the reflection.

Following is a link to the a Wikipedia article about the pink condo complex in Charlotte. Also, we are sharing a link to the original of today’s photo saved on Flickr with the caption: A pink reflection highlights a jogger in the South End district near uptown Charlotte.
