fermentory and food hall

I found the tag line to be unique on the Trolley Barn sign; a Fermentory and Food Hall. I was also intrigued by the symbol at the bottom on the sign. For a while I thought the symbol might be a Chinese letter. However, a Google search found that it is a T and B.

Following is a link to the Trolley Barn Facebook site where the symbol is larger so you can see that it is actually a T and B. We are also sharing a link to the original of today’s photo saved on Flickr with the caption: The Trolley Barn found in the SouthEnd near uptown Charlotte.

back lit grass

We are continuing the evening stroll photo mini series. Today’s photo shows a pond at Marshal Park with the grass back lit by the evening sun. A Google search “Marshall Park is occasionally the site of protester camps and demonstrations”. We enjoy strolling through the park and taking the occasional photo.

Following is a link to the Marshall Park wikipedia article. We are also sharing a link to the original of today’s photo saved on Flickr with the caption: A scene in Marshall Park in uptown Charlotte.

jogging in the evening sun

I took this photo because of the sun shining the the joggers hair. The long shadows, blue sky, decorated garage, and the rail tracks add to the scene as well.

Following a link to the Light Rail Trail website. Notice the photo on the cover of the website; I sure wish I had taken the photo. We are also sharing a link to the original of today’s photo saved on Flickr with the caption: Joggers on the light rail trail.

park bench

Today’s photo continues my evening stroll mini-series. The foreground features a park bench with long shadows from the evening sun. The photo was taken in Romare Bearden Park in uptown Charlotte. Romare Bearden was born in Charlotte and died 1988. Bearden was an artist, author, and song writer.

A Google search finds that “the park design is based on Bearden’s collages and paintings”.

BLT sign on the evening sunlight

Today we share another photo from an evening stroll in uptown Charlotte. The focus, of the photo, is the BLT Steak sign backlit in the evening sun. What interested me photographically was the light and shadows in this scene.

Following is a link to the BLT Steak restaurant website. Their website says the serve “contemporary steakhouse fare”. Also, we are sharing a link to the original of today’s photo saved on Flickr with the caption: BLT Steak sign in the evening sunlight.

tables in the evening sunlight

Today’s photo shows outdoor tables in the evening sunlight. These tables are at “Mert’s Heart And Soul cafe” which serves “down home low country” cooking. Our favorite is the cornbread which is a sweeter than any sugar cookie I have ever eaten.

I’m sharing this photo because of lighting and the shadows.

Thermal Imaging

This photo was taken because I wanted to share the sign, in the bottom left of the photo. Zoom to see that the sign says “Thermal Imaging will be used for everyone’s safety”. The other sign is important as well .. “Open for Lunch and Dinner”.

Thank you MOA for taking our safety seriously.

mural detail

Today we share a few details from the President’s Cup mural which we have highlighted the last two days. My favorite is the photo with signatures. What I especial like are the joggers (you have to zoom in to see them) in the bottom of the mural next to the signatures.

Following are links to the muralist @Traveling_Gypsy and @TreasyTreaz. Also, we are sharing a link to the original of today’s photo saved on Flickr with the caption: Part of a mural found in uptown Charlotte.

butterfly highway

A butterfly highway garden found in uptown Charlotte at the Government Center.

The butterfly highway is not very busy this time of year. As a result I took some liberties using photoshop to detect the lack of activity. The North Carolina Wildlife Federation provides these signs to those who create butterfly garden and show their butterfly love.

Theme day, picture of the year

photo taken by Denton Harryman and shared on Flickr as creative commons (CC0)

Today is theme day in the City Daily Photo community and the theme is “Picture of the Year”. Our contribution is this photo of a pink reflection. Basically I like the lighting, the long shadows, the vivid blue sky, and the perspective of the photo … taken facing the sun. The pink reflection comes from a pink condominium which I have shared previously.

Santa is inviting you to enjoy a drink at a local bar called the SIP. Following is a link with a video sharing how to say Cheers! in 10 languages.

Note the camera in the top left of the photo. Smile, you are being watch as you enjoy this photo.

the big picture

photo taken by Denton Harryman and shared on Flickr as creative commons (CC0)

Today’s photo shows how the last two post fit in the big picture. The mural is on a garage door at back of the Knight Theater which is naturally where the trash pick up is it. The Knight Theater is one of the venues in the Blumenthal Performing Arts family where magic is made. And even in the big picture one has to take out the trash. Might as well be in a pink dumpster.

Soon I will share a face-filter image of the mural.

lets talk trash

photo taken by Denton Harryman and shared on Flickr as creative commons (CC0)

It was the color, of the dumpster, that caught my eye. However, the photo also provided a post title. Zoom in and you will see the tag line for RJ Waste and Recover is “let’s talk trash”.

My personal contribution to trash talk is a story about my college years. One of my jobs was as a sanitation engineer. I started out “rolling trash cans” and worked my way up to truck driver.

A Google search found an article which explains the choice of pink. Their website says:

“We think Pink. This is a personal and important part of our corporate philosophy and business model. Think Pink and Mean Green’ philosophy, the company has a focus on cancer awareness, specifically breast cancer, and donates 10 percent of profits to organizations related to this cause.”

Mural Monday, magic

photo taken by Denton Harryman and shared on Flickr as creative commons (CC0)

Today is Mural Monday and we are sharing a mural called “where the magic happens”. The mural is signed by @Traveling_Gypsy and @Duarte_Designs; and zooming in I found a QR code which promises a video of the artist, the ability to generate site-specific “face filters”, and explore a 3-D model of the piece.

Okay, I will admit that I had to Google what a face filter was (embarrassing).

The artist are Sydney Duarte and Ann Duarte.   The mural can be found at 400 South Church Street.
