Taking Quinceanera photos at a popular fountain in Uptown Charlotte.
pruning the flowers

On a walk through the 4th Ward I noticed this gentleman pruning the flowers in his front yard. The lighting made for a nice photo. Actually this house is across the street from Alexander Michael’s tavern where I enjoyed a hamburg and wine.
This photo was taken near Alexander Michael’s tavern at 401 W 9th Street.
books stacked two stories high

Great literature is honored in a small Uptown park called the Green. On one end there are two art works in the from of books stacked two stories high … if you look at it another way you could say the books are stacked 15 stories high (smile) … so two stories are literal while 15 stories are literary.
hear the truth

While on a stroll through uptown we enjoy the art at ImaginOn a children’s library and theater. This is a photo of one work of art called Hear the Truth. There is similar art including a keyboard large enough to jump from key to key. Also, our grandson can attest to how fun the Children’s Theater is!
A Wikipedia article says ImaginOn is a collaborative venture of the Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County and the Children’s Theater of Charlotte located in Charlotte. ImageOn is located at 300 East Seventh Streett in Uptown Charlotte.
chicken art

It has been unseasonably hot and like many we have spent more time than usual in the comfort of air-conditioned places. However this weekend I took a long walk in the heat and it felt good. While on my walk I passed by this chicken art in Southend near Uptown Charlotte.
this photo was taken near the Bland Station on the Blue Line. It is also near the futo buta ramen restaurant.
before cell phones

Work is crazy busy at present. I feel a little like this guy laying phone lines all around the world in a time before cell phones. It is hard to find time to do what I enjoy such as sharing photos.
This photo was taken at 300 South Brevard Street just outside of the ATT building in Uptown Charlotte. Interestingly I found an article which indicates ATT will be vacating the building in 2015. I wonder if they will take Alexander with them (smile).
open in case of emergency

This sign is on the inside of the front door at our favorite Starbucks. The reason is says “open in case of emergency only” is because they are building a construction crane just outside of this door and the sidewalk is closed. But don’t worry, those in the know … know there is a back entrance. It is a little hard to find and we like to think of it as a prestige thing where only a select few know how to get in.
This photo was taken at the Starbucks store at 135 Levine Avenue of the Arts.
cactus plant on East Boulevard

The temperature hit 100 F today and similar highs are forecast for the next two weeks. So today we are sharing this photo of a cactus plant on East Boulevard which maybe the only thing enjoying these unseasonably high temperatures. Actually I took this photo several months ago during much cooler weather and I took the photo because it shows two contrasting images which are both out-of-place in Charlotte. Cactus are not indigenous and rarely found in Charlotte. Also, if you look closely there is a ski shop in the background. Cactus and skiing … hot and cold (smile).
The photo was taken at 1511 East Boulevard in history Dilworth near Uptown Charlotte. The business in the background is the Alpine Ski Center.
fountain at One Wells Fargo
While we strolled through Uptown this weekend I stopped to take this photo of a fountain at One Wells Fargo plaza. Given summer is in full swing and the temperature regularly hits 90+ degrees Fahrenheit there is a good chance we will be stopping to take photos of more fountains (smile).
This photo was taken at 301 South College Street. Note the 90 Fahrenheit is 32.222 degrees Celsius and I also found that one should capitalize references to temperature scales, whether written out or abbreviated.
mystery convention

We went for a walk Sunday morning and noticed backpacks everywhere. There were so many that we asked what was up and these guys they said they were attending a mystery convention … then they smiled and said there were geeks (smile). I assume their backpacks were full of cards or comic books which they traded. I have googled the subject but have not found the name of the event or a website. But we can attest it was well attended given we saw several hundred people with backpacks headed to the Convention Center.
View from the First Baptist Church

Recently we shared a photo of the First Baptist Church as seen looking down from above. Today we are sharing the view from the First Baptist Church. A twist in perspectives.
Following is the previous photo of the First Baptist Church. The address is: 301 S Davidson Street and following is a link to their website.
BOA Center

Today’s photo shows the BOA Center which is the tallest building in Charlotte. Look closely, at previous photos, and you will often find it in the Charlotte skyline. A friend of mine had the good fortune to attend a party on the top floor … Uptown in the crown (smile).
The wikipedia article indicates that gold was found during excavation for the foundation of the BOA Center … Gold makes a solid foundation for a Bank (smile).
The Bank of America Corporate Center is located at 150 N College Street.
relaxing in Romare Bearden Park
Apartments near Romare Bearden Park

Charlotte is in the middle of a apartment construction boom and these apartments near Romare Bearden Park are a good example of this construction activity. The building in center of the photo is an apartment called the Catalyst which has been around for a while. The building on the right is called the Element Uptown and was recently opened. Also, there are two additional apartments under construction on the other side of the park and one starting construction one block away.
Following is an interesting link showing walking scores for apartments in Charlotte. Also, here are links for the two apartments shown: the Catalyst and the Element Uptown.
Berry Brook Farms

We shop at Berry Brook Farms to get nuts and dried fruit to make trail mix … it is good to shop local … and as an added benefit, notice the balloons in the background (smile).
This photo of Berry Brook Farms was taken at 1257 East Blvd in historic Dilworth.
